Popcorn Ceiling Removal in San Bernardino & the Inland Empire

A textured ceiling dates a room faster than anything else in it. Removing it is dusty, careful work — containment, scraping, drywall repair and a smooth finish — and it changes how a room looks and how light moves through it.

Interior painting project completed by Luminosity Painting Company in the Inland Empire

What the project actually includes

  • Room protection: floors covered, furniture wrapped or moved, doorways and vents sealed
  • Assessment of the texture and the drywall underneath
  • Removal of the acoustic texture from the ceiling
  • Repairs to drywall damage, tape seams and cracks
  • Skim coating and sanding to a smooth surface
  • Primer and a flat ceiling finish

Containment keeps the mess in one room

The material coming off a ceiling is light and travels. We seal the room off, cover floors and anything that stays in the room, and work in sections so the rest of your house stays usable. Cleanup is part of the job, not an extra.

Repairs are usually part of the work

Texture hides a lot: old patches, cracked seams, nail pops and drywall damage. Once it's off, those show up. We repair them and skim coat the areas so the ceiling reads as one flat plane under the light, rather than a patchwork of spots that only become obvious after the paint dries.

Older ceilings and asbestos testing

In homes built roughly before the 1980s, acoustic ceiling texture and the joint compound around it may contain asbestos. We do not perform regulated asbestos abatement and won't scrape a ceiling that hasn't been tested. If your home is in that age range, have a sample tested by an accredited lab; if asbestos is present, it has to be removed by a licensed abatement contractor before any painting work begins.

This is the same guidance California regulators give homeowners, and it protects your family and our crew.

The finished ceiling

A smooth ceiling reflects light differently and makes rooms feel taller and cleaner. It also sits better next to updated lighting, new trim or fresh wall color — which is why many homeowners have the ceiling done as part of an interior repaint rather than on its own.

Questions homeowners ask

Is popcorn ceiling removal messy?

It can be, which is why we contain the work. Floors are covered, furniture is moved or wrapped, doorways and vents are sealed, and the debris comes down into drop cloths rather than onto your things. We clean the room before we call the job finished.

Will my ceiling need repair afterwards?

Usually there is some patching. Scraping can expose drywall damage, old patches, tape seams or cracks that the texture was hiding. We repair and skim those areas so the finished ceiling looks uniform rather than patched.

What about asbestos in older ceilings?

Homes built roughly before the 1980s may have asbestos in ceiling texture or joint compound. We do not perform regulated asbestos abatement work. If your home falls in that range, arrange testing with an accredited lab first, and if asbestos is present it must be removed by a licensed abatement contractor before we start.

Do you paint the ceiling after removal?

Yes. Once the ceiling is smooth, repaired and primed, we apply a ceiling finish so the result is a clean, flat surface rather than bare drywall.
